Some time at the beginning of 2019 I stumbled onto the existence of this special edition of the mid-70's F-350 called the Super Camper Special and immediately became obsessed with it. From 1973-1977, with the explosion of car camping in America, Ford decided to come out with their own camper-capable mega-truck, one capable of competing with GM's recently-released camper special on the C20 platform. To do this, they took the existing F-350, moved the rear axle backward, beefed up the rear gearing, put the spare tucked up on the side, and had the bed ready with steel tie-downs for a bed camper (all the rage at the time). This was the top-tier pickup you could buy at the time, and the price and sales numbers reflected it. Big blue only shipped 3,000 of them in '77, making them a needle in a hackstack nowadays. As my obsession grew for these rare, option-clad behemoths, one came up about 10 miles from me, and after a drive with the owner, a fellow enthusiast, the checkbook came out and the truck has been mine ever since.
